Strong and Sustainable Growth Reported at Aphel “ A good year with great prospects for the future” is
how Gordon Hutchison MD of Aphel Ltd summed up the state of play
at the end of 2003. “Like most companies involved in the
office projects and network telco markets, 2002 was to say the
least challenging. Faced with this, some of our competitors chose
to go down the route of cutting prices and selling cheap, too often
at the expense of product quality and the long-term viability of
their business. This led two of them to cease trading almost
without notice. At Aphel we made the strategic decision to stay
with our core principles of offering high quality, engineered solutions,
on time and at competitive price levels. Above all we invested
in the people involved in our business, strengthening all areas
of the business.”
“The result of this investment is
that 2003 has seen a 32% increase in turnover, and the emergence
of a strong, viable company
with high levels of investment in product development, manufacturing
infrastructure and people. This can be demonstrated by the imminent
move to a new headquarters and manufacturing facility in Coventry,
and the launch of at least two major product ranges in 2004.”

New Above Desk Unit Launched
To date those involved in providing above desk power for office
projects have had to choose between visually appealing, but high
cost offerings, or dull, functional sheet steel alternatives. Burland
Solutions, the specialist office project division of Aphel, took
a step back, examined the market from a customer’s perspective
and wrote the brief for an innovative new design. The resultant
DB3000A above desk unit (ADU)
has been described as “the
smallest, least obtrusive and most aesthetically pleasing unit
on the market”. Value engineering has ensured that it can
also be offered at competitive price levels.

and materials planning and full customer and supplier contact management.
These new modules integrate with an upgraded financial management
system giving unparalleled new visibility into the business.
Gordon Hutchison, MD of Aphel Limited commented: “These
new tools allow us to keep our focus on customer service and product
quality by providing accurate data on day to day aspects of business
from production planning to customer liaison, in a timely fashion
with minimal user interaction. They lay solid foundations for painless
growth.”

Burland Solutions Strengthened With Move to Aphel Head
Office
Moving its sales support function to the Aphel Head Office
in Rugby has strengthened Burland
Solutions, the Division of Aphel
Ltd specialising in the design, development and manufacture of distribution
systems for office projects. Commenting on the move Richard Vass,
Sales Director of Aphel Ltd, said “Following the merger of
Aphel and Burland Solutions in 2001 it has become increasingly clear
that we would be able to further improve our service to our customers
by bringing the two sales support functions together in one place.
Since the Aphel head office in Rugby is also the centre for manufacturing
and new product development, it was clear that a move there would
shorten the lines of communication, and improve our already impressive
time
to market performance.”
Vass further commented, “The move to our own purpose built
facility in Coventry is one of the most exciting events for years.
Starting with a blank sheet, we were able to create a wish list of
what our premises should provide, and have all the issues included
in the design. We can’t wait and look forward to welcoming
our customers and potential customers to the facility. For once,
we will have the exhibition areas, hospitality and technology to
provide a rewarding experience.”
